Bristol Open Competition

Earlier this month I went to a domestic sabre competition in Stratford-on-Avon. I was mainly treating this event as a warm-up event for the rest of the season, but also to set myself up in both the Senior and Junior rankings this year. In the first round I won five fights and lost one. This meant I was ranked 9th going into the elimination rounds. I went through my first couple of elimination fights relatively comfortably, although I was having some hamstring problems. So I went to see the physio at the competition and she thought that I may have a small tear in the muscle. I made the decision to stay in the competition, but unfortunately had very limited movement and lost 15-14 in the next round. This was obviously a very disappointing result for me but injuries in sport are sometimes inevitable.

I have since seen another physio and it looks more like a bad strain than a tear, which is good news as it will take much less time to heal. I am now back training and looking forward to my next competition.
