More training in Hungary!
Last week I went to Hungary for some more training.
On the Tuesday I flew out to Budapest and got settled in before training started on Wednesday morning with the Senior Hungarian squad. The training was intense but I kept up well and fenced very well against the top women in the world of fencing.
On Wednesday evening we went to a local Hungarian fencing club where I got to fence a past world champion and some of the top fencers in my age category. It was very tough but very rewarding!
On Thursday I went to another fencing venue where I got an individual lesson from my coach Peter Frolich. By this stage in the week my knee was in a little bit of pain from the intensity (I dislocated it two years ago and it hasn’t been quite right since, although it is improving all the time) but I didn’t let it get in the way of my training. In the afternoon we went back to the club from Wednesday and the training was fairly similar. Friday was my last day in Hungary so I had a lesson in the morning and then I flew back into London with the two other British fencers I was with.
We then went straight to Bristol for a very important senior domestic event and although I didn’t fence my best at the start of the competition I improved throughout the day to finish 2nd. This was my best result ever at that competition, so my work in Hungary was worth it!
