Off to the World Championships in Sicily
It’s only a few days until I fly out for my first Senior World Championships, which are being held in Catania, Sicily.
We had our final training camp last week in Truro, where we were lucky enough to be joined by the rest of the women’s sabre team and also a couple of international fencers. It was an intense week of training, but worth it! On Saturday we travelled up to Bath for the World Championships team day with the rest of the British fencing team and had a full day of final preparations, including media training and getting our new British team kit.
I am hoping to get a lot of experience from competing at the World Championships, and that is probably my main aim heading in to them. However, I am still a competitor and so I am also aiming to continue my success from this season and make a good result there. After three long months of hard training, I feel about as prepared for a competition as I can be. I am definitely still on an upward performance trajectory and I’d like to keep it that way!
Also, as a team I think that we are much better prepared for the competition; we have more support and we are also much better organised, which will both help to ensure the best results possible. I’m itching to get out there and fence now - wish me luck!
