Fundraising
Fundraising is the life blood of The Women's Section benevolence. All monies generated by fundraising activity go into the centrally controlled Benevolent Fund and are disbursed throughout the year on our Welfare programmes. For one month of the year from 14th October to 14th November all funds generated across the Women's Section go directly into the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The fundraising results that our branches and counties manage to achieve are spectacular. In recent years our members have consistently raised around half a million pounds to fund our welfare schemes. However, it is a fact that we are currently spending more on welfare than fundraising brings in. The message is, therefore, that we can never receive enough and every contribution, however small, will be welcomed. Ideally, we would hope to extend our programmes but that will be a function of just how much we can be sure of receiving. Many fundraising ideas and methods are ingenious, innovative and imaginative and we will welcome reports of successes in any one area so the best ideas can be passed on to others.
Amongst the other National Awards presented at Annual Conference, there are five cups to be competed for in the area of fundraising.
We always love to receive photographs of your events, so do keep sending them in. They will be published in the Gallery of the website and a selection will go forward to the Circular. This section of the website will be regularly updated showing the details of fundraising achievement and the donations received from Branches and Counties.
Thank you to all who give so much time, effort and energy to Women's Section Fundraising!
Collecting Boxes
As you may have seen at Annual Conference we have procured some new collecting boxes for the Women's Section. If your Branch or County would like some free of charge please ask either your Central Committee representative to collect them on your behalf or speak to Avril Bailey from Head Office who will arrange to have them posted to you. Avril's contact details can be found on the Contact Us page.
